As a follow-up to the remote paradise that is NIHI Sumba, former fashion executive Chris Burch and hotelier James McBride introduce their second location, NIHI Rote. Here, 21 thatched villas and duplex estates, each with its own private pool, immerse guests in the untamed wilderness.

Visitors can learn ikat weaving from a master craftsman or unwind with spa treatments, including traditional foot reflexology and a deep-tissue massage that incorporates a buffalo horn and Thai stretching. Guests can enjoy fishing, paddleboarding, and snorkeling in turquoise waters teeming with marine life or relish the adrenaline rush that comes from the legendary wave breaks that make for ideal surf conditions.
