The State Department confirmed Monday that sculptor Alma Allen will represent the U.S. at the 61st Venice Art Biennale, taking place May 9-November 2026. The U.S. Pavilion, titled “Alma Allen: Call Me the Breeze,” was organized by Jenni Parido, founder of The American Arts Conservancy (AAC), and curated by Jeffrey Uslip. The self-taught artist is known for his technique that blends ancient methods such as carving and shaping with modern technologies to create sculptures that reflect human touch.

The exhibition will feature previous works by the Galerie Creative Mind as well as several new, site-responsive sculptures. “I don’t fit very well into any kind of artistic movement,” Allen, who was raised in a Mormon household in Utah and moved to New York at 19, previously told Galerie. “I’ve always been fascinated by using art as a kind of mechanism to try to peer around the corners of reality. Sometimes I’m working very continuously, almost like a trance state. I can meditate by carving stone or hammering away for hours and hours.”
