Discover How ABC Stone Provides a Texture for Every Occasion
The leading natural stone supplier teams up with Los Angeles–based Borrowed Earth Collaborative for an exclusive new product line
A leading natural stone supplier for over 30 years, ABC Stone recently teamed up with Borrowed Earth Collaborative, a Los Angeles design studio founded by Ruchika Grover that transforms natural materials into sustainable surfaces and objects. The partnership made waves earlier this year when the two entities enlisted fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff for “Past is Now Present!,” an exhibition during NYCxDesign that showcased Anthozoa, sculptural wall panels by Minkoff that pushed the boundaries of how people imagine utilizing stone in an interior. Rendered in Taj White marble, Grey Fantasy marble, and travertine, the pieces were more artwork than architectural accent.
Now, Borrowed Earth Collaborative’s line of textural slabs and CNC-milled patterns are exclusively available at ABC Stone. Among the select offerings is Astradia, a striking mosaic of geometric forms that debuted earlier this year at the the 2023 Kips Bay Show House in Manhattan in a luxurious bath designed by Sergio Mercado Design.
“Astradia is 100 percent inspired by nature,” says Mercado, founder of the firm. “This particular pattern seems to constantly reveal itself to me in so many forms and iterations, always in natural settings and in natural materials. I’ve seen this pattern in stacked stone walls throughout Spain and on stone floors in Italy. My most recent encounter was while walking around Milan during Salone de Mobile. It’s a pattern that I’ve been drawn to for many years and I have visualized many interpretations of this design.”
Other series include Impressions, which was inspired by the Impressionist movement and features subtle textures that highlight the veining of the natural stone; Barococo, an ornate, modular solution ideal for façades and accent walls; Aurum, an opulent option that adds distressed gold or silver foil to intricately carved surfaces; and Architectonic, which celebrates simple architectural forms with noble materials. Whether looking for a subtle infusion of texture or a grand gesture, there’s a special surface for every sense of style.
