After launching the popular Paris art fair Drawing Now, Christine Phal realized that drawing was still “an orphan here the rest of the year.” So she and her daughter, Carine Tissot, founded Drawing Lab and Drawing Hotel. Inspired in part by New York’s Drawing Center, the 1st arrondissement venture combines an art space (with a solo show by Brazilian artist Debora Bolsoni through September) with a four-star boutique hotel, where all five floors were embellished by artists. The question is whether the art can compete with the design shop, café-bar, or the picturesque views from the garden rooftop. drawinghotel.com
