Those who decorate well forgo trends and embrace colors, prints, and aesthetics distinctly their own. That need for uniquely personalized spaces has, over the last several years, shaped residential interiors as designers and their clients orchestrate atmospheres of creative palettes, thoughtful assortments of art, and inspired mixes of furniture, layering collectible design pieces with fabulous vintage finds to produce an aesthetic rich with narrative and personality.

“We saw people looking for a tempo that felt more intentional and giving a lot more thought to the colors that they were bringing into their home, the items they were bringing into their home, and making it feel a little bit more intentional and not so of the moment,” says Andrea Magno, Vice President of Brand, Color, and Integrated Marketing, at Benjamin Moore.

That considered resonance influenced Benjamin Moore’s selection for the latest Color of the Year—Webster Green, a moody, rich tone from the brand’s historical collection. “For 2027, our focus centered on the green color family. When we looked across the past, present, and future of color trends, variations on green consistently demonstrated remarkable staying power,” says Magno. “Webster Green reflects this timeless appeal by pairing reassuring stability with optimistic energy. Its composed nature feels both rooted and forward-looking, while enhancing spaces that feel distinctive, collected, and continually new.”

In spotlighting Webster Green as this year’s winner, the Benjamin Moore team culled the company archives, seeing the way shades of green appeared in interiors across eras, from the jewel tones of the 1920s and 30s, mint in the 1950s, and the pewter, pine, and sage tones prevalent today. “Green is a color family that’s really able to defy trends in a way,” suggests Magno. “Webster Green is a great color for architectural situations; it has a real presence to it. It has depth, it has character, it has really good versatility, and plus the fact that it’s from our historic collection, that gives it a little bit of a pedigree.”

Drawing on a year of market research, the Benjamin Moore team supported the Color of the Year announcement with a palette of eight timeless shades. Included in the array is Nelson Blue, a watery hue from the brand’s Williamsburg collection; Shakespeare Tan, a complex ochre that almost shifts from gold to green undertones in changing light; and Wild Aster, a graceful pink with an air of sophistication.

Undoubtedly, a palette needs a white and this year’s spotlight is on White Down. “It’s not a stark white; it has a little bit of cream, a little bit of depth, and some subtlety to it,” says Magno. “It has an overall softness and complements a lot of colors very nicely. I think it’s one that a lot of people hopefully will add to their collection of favorite whites.”

Rounding out the assortment of shades for 2027 is Antique Copper, a spicy terracotta tone; Durango, a deep olive shade; and Townsend Harbor Brown, a chocolate-meets-burgundy hue that has an atmospheric depth and substantial feel, particularly when rendered in a matte finish. Applied indoors or on an exterior, this year’s colors, says Magno, juxtapose the past with the present, for a look of inspiring depth, tranquility, and timelessness.
