Omega Introduces Seven New Speedmaster 38 mm Models
The new timepieces have two self-winding Co-Axial movements and aesthetics drawn from the legendary Moonwatch
There’s quite a bit to say about the Omega Speedmaster 38, which is joined today by seven new references. Offering a dressier size than the 42 mm version, the Speedmaster 38 occupies a slightly unusual place in the brand’s lineup. Omega has been making watches since 1848, but the Speedmaster is the collection most closely identified with the company: it debuted in 1957 as a purpose-built chronograph and, after NASA qualified the Speedmaster for crewed missions in 1965, became inseparable from the history of spaceflight and the Moon landings.
“The Speedmaster 38 mm has always taken its cues from the Moonwatch, while keeping size, color, and simplicity in mind,” said OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann. “With this latest update, we’ve taken the Moonwatch inspiration even further, helping to enrich the Speedmaster DNA while still retaining the refined and unique nature that the 38 mm range is known for.”
Omega has made the 38 glamorous. Two models, one with an ice blue PVD coated dial, and the second with a white mother-of-pearl dial, are available with 52 diamonds, totaling 1.53 carats, on the bezel. This chimes with how Omega itself has increasingly styled 38 mm Speedmasters on both men and women; recent red-carpet wearers have included Colman Domingo, Tommy Bastow, and Chase Stokes.
The seven new models feature variations on the five-link stainless steel bracelet, two with gold accents. Steel-on-steel versions offer a black aluminum bezel with a black varnished dial with a matte finish, a blue ceramic bezel with a white dial, and a warm grey aluminum bezel, and an opaline silvery PVD dial. All the new 38s have a thicker bezel, but less lettering on the dial for a cleaner look.
