A legendary spinning California home known as the “Round House” has come to market for the first time since the owner’s relatives built it in 1963. The Novato property is part of a $3.3 million deal that includes the sale of another talked-about home, the “Potato Chip House,” and five additional tenant-occupied structures.

The 2.25-acre property located off Highway 101 in Marin County’s Novato can either be preserved or subdivided, according to the Marcus & Millichap listing. The builder, Sam Harkleroad, after whom the road the compound is located on is named, had no formal architectural training, according to SFGate.com. For the Round House, Harkleroad rigged a washing machine motor and control switch that rotates the 1,562-square-foot home 320 degrees over the course of 20 minutes on a pedestal and old railroad track, according to the report.

“When you want to make a change, you just turn the house, and all your views change, and suddenly the sun’s coming up in a different window or a different room,” the Round House’s current tenant told Fox Local. “So, you can, like, follow the sunrise and the sunset in the same day if you wanted.”

Similar to Round House, the Potato Chip House was constructed using recycled materials and shares a shape similar to many arenas.
