A Visionnaire Armchair Channels a Thrilling Sculpture by Lynda Benglis

For this year’s Salone del Mobile exhibition “Rare Matter: A Retro-Brutalist Story,” Visionnaire updated furnishings from its storied archives, including the 1960s-era Bachi armchair. This edition honors the original aesthetic, inspired by the roundness of a silkworm cocoon, paired with reengineered construction.

The thrilling sculptures conjured by American artist Lynda Benglis appear as though they’re ribbons of molten metal that froze while twisting, curling, and melting. Her resulting creations, such as Yellow Tail (2020), deliver magnetic tension and poetic grace in equal doses.
