On Wednesday, June 18, Studio 1 at the West Hollywood EDITION will honor Pride Month with a silent auction to benefit the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the culmination of “Made with Pride,” a freshly launched, first-of-its-kind artist-in-residence program. “Made with Pride” brings together five local LGBTQ+ artists with burgeoning reputations. Their artwork will be on display leading up to the sale.

The exciting young group includes a photographer, a painter, a ceramicist, a mixed-media artist, and a textile artist. “This work is a love letter to West Hollywood’s queer creative community and the freedom of expression we’ve created here,” says Grant Legan, whose work accesses years of travel and intimate hospitality experiences. Ceramic artist Mohamed Ouedraogo leans into feelings of childlike wonder in his coil-constructed, contemplation-evoking clay pieces.

Painter Zoe Walsh donated a colorful past project inspired by Richard Neutra’s architectural themes. It reflects their fascination with the familiar Los Angeles landscape. They explained, “In this context, the painting resonates with my observations at the EDITION through a shared attention to pools, architecture, reflection, and the mediated construction of place.”

In addition, mixed media artist Amit Greenberg brings a pop surrealist, joyfully graphic sensibility to “Made with Pride.” And Vita Kari creates fascinating tapestries inspired by their grandmother’s rugs, incorporating figurative motifs that reference the pixel, public space, diaspora, and internet culture.

“The West Hollywood EDITION has always been intentional about being a supportive sanctuary for the queer and creative communities,” say Gregory Alexander, Director of Culture and Entertainment at The West Hollywood EDITION, adding, “This year, we wanted to take a new approach to celebrating queer perspectives and stories by directly investing into these creative practices and offering a unique platform for these wonderful artists, while also raising money for a nonprofit that directly supports the community.”
