Artful Escapes: Eha

This 22-guest retreat is hidden on the remote island of Estonia’s Hiiumaa, and offers nature-influenced wellness rituals

In Estonian, eha means “twilight,” a nod to the Baltic country’s endless summer evenings and “the stillness and deeper sense you get from being in a location like this,” says hotel creative director Hannes Unt of the Nordic-style, 22-guest retreat hidden on remote Hiiumaa, Estonia’s second largest island. Architect Tiit Trummal eschewed 90-degree angles while embracing the island’s traditional materials in eight suites and three forest cabins.

Eha’s environment guided both the landscape design and the nature-influenced wellness rituals—stays can be reserved only as part of a three-, five-, or seven-night program—blending Estonian and ancestral healing traditions like birch sauna ceremonies and sacred peat wraps.
