Historic Victorian-Era Home in the Hamptons Hits the Market for $14.2 Million
Before it became Rosemary Lodge, this property was a $50 plot of land
A three-story Victorian-era gem in the Hamptons that dates back to 1885 has hit the market with an asking price of $14.25 million. The home, known as Rosemary Lodge, is located in Water Mill and sits on .93 acres.
The Shingle Style dwelling—listed with Steve Dorn of Brown Harris Stevens—boasts five bedrooms, four baths, and one half bath across 4,110 square feet. The original owner was Henry Turbell Rose, a clergyman who spent $50 for the plot of land that would later be known as Rosemary Lodge. He spent another $25 to hire an architect, and the rest is history.

“There is no other home in the Hamptons with the built-in woodwork and hand-built furniture, with carvings and Shakespeare sayings, such as this one,” Dorn tells Galerie. “It all comes with this magnificent luxury home with state-of-the-art bathrooms, and a huge chef’s kitchen overlooking the outdoor patio, pool, and pool house. And, you don’t have to worry about charging your electric car because there is a brand new electric car charger that has been installed.”
While it underwent a renovation in 2007, the historic home still has its original paneling, stained glass windows, hand-carved woodwork, and detailed moldings. Various etchings can be found on the woodwork throughout the home, including flowers, butterflies, birds, and ships, as well as RL, the initials of the home’s name.

Other design elements include four working fireplaces with hand-carved mantels and custom tile inserts, a picturesque rose garden at the entrance, an outdoor lounge and dining area, and a heated pool. There is also an alfresco cooking station with a vegetable garden and a sizable fridge, a darkroom to develop photos and film, a pool house with a full bath and an outdoor shower, an exercise and bicycle shed, and more.
Rosemary Lodge is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the New York State Register of Historic Places.
