A Gilded Age-era townhouse that has belonged to the Gucci family, Calvin Klein, and an Italian Ambassador to the U.N. is on the market, for $19.5 million. Completed in 1902, the single-family abode boasts six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and two powder rooms across 10,258 square feet.

“Today’s buyers are attracted by the same things that attracted former celebrity owners Gucci and Calvin Klein to this house: a beautiful Neo-Georgian façade and exquisite interior details from 1902,” listing agent George Vanderploeg, of Douglas Elliman, tells Galerie.

That includes “a grand stair and eight wood-burning fireplaces, a big footprint, high ceilings on every floor, blazing sunlight, and a presence on one of the finest blocks off Fifth Avenue, opposite Central Park, [which is] filled with other grand townhouses,” adds Vanderploeg.

Located at 16 East 76th Street, this historic dwelling was designed by architecture firm Hoppin & Koen for lawyer Moncure Robinson. In more recent years, the Gucci family owned the home, from 1979 to 1989, before selling it to Calvin Klein, who renovated the abode. Klein later sold it to Italy, so that their ambassador to the U.N. could reside here.

Additional features of the six-level brownstone include a 1,693-square-foot basement, an elevator, a brick-and-limestone exterior, a grand entrance hall and staircase, and a formal dining room that seats up to 16. There is also a 110-square-foot wine cellar on the basement floor, two sets of cast iron and glass doors on the ground floor, a wrought iron balcony and marble fireplace on the parlor floor, a wood-paneled library on the third floor, two large bedrooms on the fourth floor, a sizeable skylight on the fifth floor, and a 1,600-square-foot roof that can become an idyllic rooftop garden.

Better yet, this particular property is currently the only 10,000-square-foot townhouse between Fifth and Madison Avenues that is on the market for under $24 million. It also boasts proximity to storied Manhattan restaurants, stores, museums, and hotels.
