Year after year, the art and design worlds bring forth new talents that hold tremendous promise. Many shine brightly then fade, but a chosen few endure, finding a permanent place in the cultural firmament—continuing to evolve their practices, fine-tune their voices, and dazzle with their originality.

For the past five years, the Galerie editorial team has taken great pride in putting together our Emerging Artists issue, headlined by our portfolio of “Next Big Things,” a list—curated by cultural luminaries—of on-the-rise artists who we believe are destined for something, well, big.

In these pages, we also spotlight other up-and-comers across various creative fields. There’s wood artisan Anne Brandhøj, whose sculptures and furniture provide a fresh interpretation on the medium, and Priorat, Spain’s buzziest wine region, which is ripe for exploration. A trio of promising jewelry designers have also caught our attention with their creations, which are as sparkling as they are filled with personality. While Miami artist Hernan Bas is certainly not unknown, the stirring narrative paintings he reveals to us in this issue’s Studio Visit demonstrate why his solo exhibition at The Bass Museum of Art marks a bounding leap forward in his already stellar two-decade-plus career.

When it comes to interiors, we’re got our eye on DHD Architecture + Interior Design. This innovative firm brings a commanding level of panache to an apartment overlooking New York’s Central Park. Its distinctive vision comes across in assured architectural moves and a uniquely orchestrated array of furnishings that go punch for punch with a collection of powerful canvases. Also, Brian McCarthy, a venerable legend in the world of design, offers an altogether different take for a Manhattan duplex soaring above the city that demonstrates his masterful ability to bring together the talents of international artisans. Whether it’s imaginative breakthroughs by well-known names or exciting creations from bold newcomers, each sparks the thrill of discovery, which is something we strive to bring to every story.
