Hotel of the Week: The Legendary Carlton Cannes Hotel Gets a Spectacular Makeover on the French Riviera

French designer Tristan Auer, best known for restoring the Hotel de Crillon in Paris, completely renovated the Beaux-Arts beauty

For over a century, this Beaux Arts stunner has stood proudly on the French Riviera, earning a reputation for hosting the world’s most glamorous movie stars for the Cannes Film Festival. But even great beauties need a refresh, which is why interior designer Tristan Auer and architect Richard Lavelle were hired to restore the property’s 332 guest rooms to their former glory. (Notably, the update also included the addition of 37 branded residences.) Among the other new highlights are the courtyard’s breathtaking infinity pool, a pétanque court with its own rosé menu, and the buzzy restaurant Rüya, the only Anatolian dining destination in the region.
