Waterford’s Latest Collection Finds Inspiration in Ireland’s History of Stargazing
Featuring tumblers, globes, bowls, and paperweights, Stellar takes celestial patterns to new heights of craftsmanship
Leave it to Waterford to combine centuries of experience into just one tumbler. With its new Stellar collection, the Irish crystal maker brings a new level of artistry to its legacy of craftsmanship. “This is the first prestige collection we’re launching for the refreshed DNA,” says Waterford’s Davy Thomas, who says Waterford in the midst of a rebranding in preparation for the next 100 years. “We wanted to bring the traditional cut and craftsmanship, but with a new level of artistry and inspiration for a more contemporary collection.”

Taking inspiration from Ireland’s 5,000-year history of stargazing, the introductions include a mesmerizing series of 12 crystal tumblers each depicting an astrological constellation, plus a limited edition handblown celestial globes, two bowls patterned to resemble the surface of the moon and another with the solar system, and a paperweight. “The pinnacle is the celestial globe,” Thomas tells Galerie. “It takes more than 82 hours to make that piece and requires skills from a number of craftsmen. We managed to do something very Waterford in the sense of craftsmanship but much more attractive for contemporary design.”
Old-world techniques, including blowing, cutting, engraving, etching, and gilding which have been used for centuries, are utilized in the modern designs, allowing collectors to hold nearly 250 years of craftsmanship in the palm of their hand.
