This Stunning Silk Crêpe Dress by Akris Echoes a Vivid Chiharu Shiota Installation

Discover how life imitates art in unexpected moments of visual synchronicity

Celebrated contemporary Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota weaves intricate installations of yarn that explore themes of the human experience. For her 2018 work Me Somewhere Else, the artist conceived a complex web of red wool exploding from a pair of plaster cast feet. This spring, her solo show “Wo Sind Wir Jetzt?” debuts at the 2024 European Capital of Culture, in Austria’s Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut region. The work parallels a look from Akris spring/summer 2024 collection, where creative director Albert Kriemler cited textile and craft designer Felice “Lizzi” Rix-Ueno as a reference for this fringed, silk crêpe dress.
